My Messy Life

Advice to my Younger Self

If I could give my younger self advice…

I’d tell her that others’ opinions about her are as valuable as a politician’s empty promises

I’d tell her that fighting for unrequited love is like being stuck on a hamster wheel so jump

I’d tell her that mom’s advice is the purest form of advice she can ever receive

I’d tell her that it’s OK to sleep in instead of hitting the gym when her body says so

I’d tell her to eat the cake on those special occasions because life is worth celebrating

I’d tell her that living in the moment is more important than getting that perfect Instagram picture

I’d tell her that hard work may look like luck to others but she knows differently so who cares

I’d tell her that if she’s unhappy stop searching for answers within others, look within herself

I’d tell her that while ice cream isn’t considered a meal it can most certainly be one in disguise

I’d tell her that dreaming is OK, acting on a dream is better, achieving one takes grit

I’d tell her that human kindness should trump her desire to be liked or fit in

I’d tell her that a key hook by the door will add hours back to her busy life

I’d tell her to take in that stray cat or foster that pup for her heart will instantly grow three sizes bigger

I’d tell her that doing the right thing will often close doors; those doors feel good to push shut

I’d tell her that empathy and understanding are free to give to help heal the wounded

I’d tell her to be a good listener for those she loves, as we all need a listening ear near by

Above all, I’d tell her to love & take care of herself so she can continue to put good back into the world.
